Win Carnage (starring Kate Winslet and Jodie Foster) on DVD

Carnage out 18 Jun 2012

To celebrate the June 18 release of Roman Polanski's Carnage, One of the funniest and most intelligent films of the year, The Fan Carpet are giving you the chance to win the film on DVD.

Based on the play God of Carnage by French playwright Yasmina Reza, CARNAGE is a searing, sharp, pitch-black comedy from Oscar winning director Roman Polanski (The Ghost, The Pianist).

When two eleven year old boys get into a confrontation in the local playground that results in one boy hitting the other in the mouth with a stick, Michael and Penelope Longstreet (JOHN C. REILLY: We Need to Talk About Kevin and JODIE FOSTER: Panic Room), the parents of the boy who was struck, invite Alan and Nancy Cowan to their Brooklyn apartment (CHRISTOPH WALTZ: Inglorious Basterds and KATE WINSLET: The Reader), the parents of the "bully", to deal with the incident in a civilized manner.

Penelope (JODIE FOSTER) is the one whose idea it was to invite the Cowans, her priorities in life include human rights and justice. Her husband Michael (JOHN C. REILLY), him, tries to be as accommodating as possible to retain civility in any situation. On the other side, Nancy (KATE WINSLET), is a nervous and emotionally stressed woman, and her husband Alan (CHRISTOPH WALTZ), seems to be married more to his work as evidenced by the attachment he has to his cell phone.

Their meeting is intended to be a short visit but various circumstances, such as Nancy vomiting in the Longstreet's living room and Alan's numerous cell phone conversations, continue to draw it out. At first, the verbal exchange between the two married couples maintains a high civility factor but when the differences between them start to emerge the couples begin to turn on each other and finally each on their own spouse. As their civility and inhibition washes away, aided by a bottle of Scotch whisky, the geniality vanishes, descending fully into verbal warfare with all their character flaws laid bare.

Both Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet were nominated for Best Actress at the latest Golden Globe Awards.
