June 27 2011
Narnia actor Ben Barnes has napped the lead role alongside Tron legend Jeff Bridges in the upcoming fantasy adventure The Seventh Son beating out the likes of I Am Number Four's Alex Pettyfer and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Sam Claflin.
Barnes who was last seen in Killing Bono and as Caspian in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader will be playing the young farmhand who discovers he has an aptitude for perceiving the supernatural. He’s taught by Master Gregory (Jeff Bridges), who guides him in his magical ways as well as having to deal with Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore) an evil witch with her own plans for Tom.
Also part of the cast is Swedish actress Alicia Vikander who plays Moore's daughter Alice who is still deciding whether she’ll follow the dark side or the light.
Based on the first book in the Wardstone Chronicles by Joseph Delaney, Warner Bros. are clearly looking to fill the void left by Harry Potter. Set for a release in 2013, Mongol’s Sergey Bodrov is set to direct.
