Justin Timberlake to Compose Original Music for Director Bill Purple’s Drama
AngelWorld Entertainment (AWE) has signed on to finance and produce The Devil in the Deep Blue Sea starring Jessica Biel (Total Recall, The A-Team), Chloë Grace Moretz (Hugo, Kick-Ass) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, Grey’s Anatomy). Bill Purple (Private Practice) will direct from a script by Robbie Pickering (Natural Selection). Six-time Grammy Award winning musician/actor Justin Timberlake will compose and serve as music supervisor for the film’s soundtrack. Biel will produce with Michelle Purple under their Iron Ocean Films banner alongside Preferred Content’s Ross M. Dinerstein and AngelWorld’s Darby Angel. Principal photography is set to begin fall 2012.
Set in New Orleans, The Devil in the Deep Blue Sea follows Henry, a grieving widower who recently lost his wife (Jessica Biel) in a tragic car accident, as he finds refuge by helping a wisecracking young girl (Chloë Grace Moritz) fulfill her dream of building a raft and sailing across the Atlantic Ocean.
AWE’s Darby Angel said “The project is a perfect fit for AngelWorld with its gripping script, stellar cast and talented production team. We’re thrilled to add it to our expanding slate of investments in quality independent films.”
AWE recently announced the launch of their $150m equity fund dedicated to independent film productions resulting from a strategic alliance with Glenn Myles’ First Wall Street global merchant bank. The Devil in the Deep Blue Sea joins The Big Shoe, starring Jim Sturgess and Susan Sarandon, on AWE’s slate of upcoming projects.
Biel is represented by Kim Hodgert of CAA and Management 360’s Suzan Bymel and Nicole King; Moretz by Elyse Scherz, Andrew Dunlap and Ari Emanuel of WME and 3 Arts Entertainment’s Pam Kohl; and Timberlake by Brandt Joel of WME. CAA, which represents Pickering, set up financing for the film and represents its North American distribution rights.
