Last month we reported that Jena Malone was in talks to join Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the sequel to the worldwide Box office smash The Hunger Games and word is that she has been offered the coveted role.
The Hollywood Reporter report that Malone, who is famed for the likes of Sucker Punch and Donnie Darko is up for the role of snide tribute Johanna Mason in sequel, which is said to be a key role in the trilogy which will see her return for Mockingjay.
The role requires a mix of wit and physicality. Although Mason enjoys some of the best one-liners in the Suzanne Collins novel, her first appearance finds her stripping out of her tribute costume in an effort to make Katniss uncomfortable.
Francis Lawrence who directed I Am Legend is calling the shots on the sequel with late September being earmarked as the start of the shoot that will also see Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth return to their respective roles.
At the moment Malone has The Wait from filmmaker M. Blash in post production which sees her star with Chloë Sevigny and Luke Grimes in a film about two sisters who decide to keep their deceased mother in their home after being informed that she will come back to life.
