Leading international sales and production group Intandem Films is delighted to announce the launch of its own UK distribution company headed up by former Walt Disney Managing Director Robert Mitchell.
Intandem Films Distribution aims to release up to five films in its first year of business alone covering films across all genres and budgets from mainstream Hollywood blockbusters through to small independent British features. The company’s first release, which is set for October, will be Grassroots starring Jason Biggs (American Pie, American Reunion), Joel David Moore (Avatar, Beyond a Reasonable Doubt) and Cobie Smulders (Marvel Avengers Assemble, How I Met Your Mother) and written and directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal (Waterland).

It’s a natural next step to form our own UK distribution company and there is no one better qualified or experienced to build our presence in UK distribution than Robert Mitchell” explains Intandem Films CEO and founder Gary Smith.
Intandem Films Distribution’s Managing Director, Robert Mitchell is one the industry’s most respected and successful figures having spent 17 years at Walt Disney setting up the international film distribution company Buena Vista before being promoted to Managing Director of Walt Disney UK. Prior to this he was Marketing Director and Deputy Managing Director at independent production and film distribution company Palace Pictures.
Says Mitchell: “Intandem Films is one of the most exciting companies in the industry today and has the experience and backing to repeat this success in UK distribution. I am thrilled to be with the company at the start of this journey and to steer the company as it becomes a major player in film distribution”.
In addition to Grassroots, other future releases include a movie version of the iconic TV series, Catweazle, to be directed by John Henderson. Intandem Films Distribution will also release 10 Things I Hate About Life starring Hayley Atwell (Brideshead Revisited, The Duchess) and directed by Gil Junger and produced by Andrew Lazar (Cats and Dogs, Get Smart) which is the follow up to Disney’s hugely successful 10 Things I Hate About You starring Heath Ledger and also directed by Gil Junger and produced by Andrew Lazar. Robert Mitchell was responsible for the successful UK release of 10 Things I Hate About You whilst he was at Disney.
Intandem Films has an impeccable reputation in the film industry with offices both in the UK and LA. Since its creation less than ten years ago, the company has continued to go from strength to strength raising finance, helping produce and sell such productions as How to Lose Friends and Alienate People starring Simon Pegg, Jeff Bridges and Megan Fox; And When Did You Last See Your Father starring Colin Firth.
Joining Mitchell in the role of Sales Director of Intandem Films Distribution is former 20th Century Fox Executive Sales Director Terry Dove, who was responsible for films such as Titanic, Star Wars, The Full Monty, Braveheart, the Ice Age franchise, Moulin Rouge, Die Another Day, Minority Report, Independence Day, the Die Hard franchise and the X-Men franchise.

Intandem Films is a London and Los Angeles based international film group whose business includes executive production, film financing, international sales and UK distribution of commercial feature films. It aims to represent up to ten films per annum for international sales and is currently working on films with total budgets in excess of $150million. These include 10 Things I Hate About Life, from the producer and director of 10 Things I Hate About You starring Hayley Atwell. Gary Smith is responsible for Intandem’s business strategy and is keen to establish Intandem within the creative community starting with screenplay writers. In the past, he has supported the creative development of films at The Donner Company in Los Angeles and Intandem was part of the production and development consortium led by Number 9 Films and backed by the UK Film Council. He has been an executive producer on over forty films including Heartbreakers (Sigorney Weaver, Gene Hackman) andHow to Lose Friends and Alienate People (Simon Pegg, Jeff Bridges, Kirsten Dunst).
ROBERT MITCHELL
Robert Mitchell has a wealth of experience in the film industry having worked for some of the biggest film companies in the world including Walt Disney for 17 years, where he set up the international film distribution company, Buena Vista, in 1992. Following this he was promoted to Managing Director of Walt Disney UK. During his time at Disney, Robert released eight of the current top fifty films ever distributed in the UK, including Pirates of the Caribbean and Finding Nemo. In 2004, he was voted International Distributor of the Year by ICA and has been a BAFTA winner. He also has executive produced two award winning films.
Prior to his time with Walt Disney, Robert was Deputy Managing Director and Marketing Director at Palace Pictures, an independent production and film distribution company. Robert has also previously worked at Warner Brothers, which he joined as Advertising Director in 1983 before becoming Marketing Director two years later.
