Emma Watson emerges as frontrunner for Fifty Shades of Grey

July 24 2012

With the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey being all the anyone is talking about, the latest name to be linked to main character is none other than Harry Potter favourite Emma Watson.

The International Business Times report that Watson has emerged the frontrunner to play the female protagonist Anastasia Steele in EL James's Twilight inspired novel which follows a young college student as she embarks on a BDSM relationship with an older businessman.

Back in March Universal Pictures and Focus Features won the rights to turn the bestseller into a film and recently named Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti as the producers for the film.

Watson has some competition however, as Hollywood actresses Emma Roberts, Ashley Benson and Lucy Hale have all expressed an interest in the part of Ana.

Angelina Jolie is in the frame to potentially direct, while Star Trek franchise star Chris Pine, True Blood's Alexander Skarsgård and The Vampire Diaries's Ian Somerhalder have all been linked to the role of Christian Grey.

As for Watson, she will next be seen alongside Logan Lerman in Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower which comes to cinemas on October 5.
