Production of The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes delayed

Harald Zwart's The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is currently playing in cinemas worldwide and following its so so box office take, it is being reported that production of the sequel which was due to begin next week, has been delayed.

The Wrap report that Constantin have pushed the sequel back after the film opened to $9.3 million (£5.9 million) and currently sits at a worldwide total gross of $37 million (£23 million) against a budget of $60 million (£38 million).

With the delay, it is now rumoured that the sequel will never see the light of day.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones centres around a young woman who discovers that she is the latest in a line of magic beings tasked with protecting the world from the forces of darkness.

Zwart and his cast of Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and Kevin Zegers have all signed on to return for The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes, which also has Sigourney Weaver attached as a veteran Shadowhunter.
