SYNOPSIS
28 days was one of those movies you can tell the writer (Susannah Grant) knows the subject material, maybe even up close and personal. Director (Betty Thomas) did a wonderful job of giving Gwen’s (Sandra Bullock) flashbacks that fuzzy look and sound where the drunk isn’t sure if they dreamed what happened or if it really did happen. This movie did not get the praise it deserved I think because the content scared too many people. Alcoholism had been steadily on the rise for more than 30 years, yet people would rather still walk around the giant pink elephant in their living room. They don’t want to know much about alcoholism for fear when they look in the mirror they might just see it staring back.
