Daybreakers stars two-time Academy Award nominee® Ethan Hawke who plays Edward Dalton, a researcher in the year 2019, in which an unknown plague has transformed the world's population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampires must capture and farm every remaining human, or find a blood substitute before time runs out. Imagine a world controlled by vampires with only a handful of humans. The Spierig brothers bring us Daybreakers and they do it tremendously well, from daylight driving to alarm systems that tell when the sun is rising. The world they have created is as dark as it is beautiful and as stylish as it is gritty.
At the heart of the film is Edward played by Ethan Hawke, a vampire scientist who does his utmost to steer clear of human blood. Edward is trying to solve the problem of a dwindling blood supply with trials that leads to unexpected and explosive results.
