"with the use of stomach-churning tension the film evolves to be something quite brutal"
Eden Lake is chillingly realistic, which I can only describe as happy slap attacks that are published regularly in the news. It's well written, and throws its hat into the ring of the age old debate of nature verses nurture.
Throughout their torment, where very little 'gore' is used, you really feel for the main characters, Jenny and Steve. I couldn't say this is an enjoyable film for most, although it's interesting to watch as the events unfold which makes it an unforgettable film within its horror genre. With the use of stomach-churning tension the film evolves to be something quite brutal.
I haven't seen anything like this before, that's not to say that there aren't any, but its done with style and genuine realism. You will care about the main characters and hope for the best outcome of this terrifying game of cat and mouse right though to its well earned and genuinely shocking ending!
