Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist is a fun, teen film, not unlike some we have seen before. It has a lot of laughs and is enjoyable from start to finish.
There's no denying that the formula works, but they've added a twist, which comes in the form of a sort of damsel in distress guise as Norah's best friend Caroline (Ari Graynor) goes missing as they search for a band called 'Where's Fluffy'.
Ari Graynor, is really funny as Caroline, we all have them, the vulnerable, party animal friend that you just can't help wanting to keep safe, the one that goes 'too far'.
Michael Cera is excellent as Nick, however, these sort of roles (geeky-teen-boy-next-door) are easy for him, he needs to spread his wings. He's a talented actor, and should be careful not to be type cast and be doing them well into his 40's.
Similarly, Kat Dennings (Norah), is also brilliant, but her character doesn't seem that far removed from her 'Raising Dad' character; Sarah Stewart, still an awkward teen, I hope she's not type cast either.
The two have a wonderful chemistry together, and drive the film.
The supporting cast has everything you'd expect from a teen rom-com, the bitchy 'all that' girl, the supportive friends (who all happen to be gay), the attention seeker etc. It's a formula that works, nothing unusual or new, but a fun and entertaining journey of self discovery and closure.
