Sydney Pollack directs this star showcase in which Robert Redford appears as Sonny Steele, a fading alcoholic ex-world champion rodeo cowboy who rides away from a Las Vegas casino atop a multimillion-dollar racehorse. Jane Fonda plays Alice Martin, the relentless broadcast journalist who follows him because she is determined to discover why. The story gently and humorously eases the viewer into their world and adds an unanticipated environmentalist twist to the romantic action of the plot.
