June 8 2012

How well do you know yourself and those you love…

Returning home from work, Mia (Jodie Whittaker – Good, Venus, St. Trinian’s & St. Trinian’s 2: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold) witnesses an aged woman leap from a window.  Scattered around the old woman’s broken, lifeless body Mia discovers shredded pieces from a beloved photograph of herself and her former lover Ludwig (Dougray Scott – Hitman, Enigma, Mission Impossible II). Highly unnerved, Mia begs Max (David Warner - Avatar, Planet of the Apes, Titanic ), the buildings’ all knowing custodian, to let her into the deceased woman’s flat.  While inside this strangely familiar place, Mia recognizes the contents as her own. Confused and disturbed by what lies before her, she bolts back and forth in time where she is forced to realize it was her very own life that ended before her.  Now, the only way to safeguard her future is to go back to her past and confront the man she loves deeply but dreads most.

We all love a bad boy and to celebrate the release of the new British psychological thriller A Thousand Kisses Deep, starring Dougray Scott, Jodie Whittaker, Emilia Fox and David Warner, we will take a look at the crème de la crème of bad boys in films...

Tyler Durden – Fight Club (1998)

Brad Pitt’s iconic performance as Tyler Durden is definitely one for the bad boy books! His undeniable charm and humour draw in Edward Norton’s character and takes him on the journey of a lifetime; the two create a secret club where men can go to release anger through physical fights, but as it grows and a following is created, things get out of hand. Yet no matter how terrible things become, no one can resist Tyler. He is without a doubt one of the most classic loveable bad boys.

Patrick Verona - 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

A modern take on William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, 10 Things I Hate About You is set in an American high school and tells the story of two sisters. The younger sister wants to date, but her protective father has said that she cannot go out with boys until her older sister Kat does. He would-be boyfriends then have to find someone willing to go out with the angry, feminist Kat. The only one they can persuade is the elusive outcast bad boy Patrick (Heath Ledger), who is paid to take her out. The unforgettable scene where Patrick Verona serenades Kat from the bleachers of the football stadium makes him the most romantic bad boy in film.

Captain Jack Sparrow – Pirates of the Caribbean (2003)

Somehow making it okay to fall in love with filthy, sneaky pirate, Johnny Depp made Jack Sparrow a recognized and individual character. Though it may be interpreted as walking the fine line between bad boy and hero, his hidden intentions and ‘every man for himself’ attitude give him the allure of bad boy, even though the audience isn’t really sure. Throughout the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Jack Sparrow is thrown into many adventures, each one weirder than the next, but he always seems suave, as if everything has always been a part of his plan.

XXXX – Layer Cake (2004)

On the night our unnamed cocaine dealing protagonist is planning on leaving the drug game for good, he gets sent on two suspicious and difficult assignments. Daniel Craig impresses as calm and clever in any situation, most of which are very dangerous. The Bond-esque gangster always keeps cool and leaves us wanting more!

Ludwig Giroux – A Thousand Kisses Deep (2012)

How well do you know yourself and those you love? This new thriller tells the story of Mia (Jodie Whittaker) who witnesses an aged woman leap from a window.  Scattered around the old woman’s lifeless body Mia discovers shredded pieces from a beloved photograph of herself and her former lover Ludwig (Dougray Scott). Confused and disturbed by what she discovers, she bolts back and forth in time where she is forced to realize it was her very own life that ended before her.  Now, the only way to safeguard her future is to go back to her past and confront the man she loves deeply but dreads most.
