The Amazing Spider-Man swings into cinemas on July 3rd and Andrew Garfield who takes on the title role in the hotly anticipated superhero reboot has revealed that he almost suffocated while filming.
The Never Let Me Go star slips into the iconic red and blue suit for the superhero reboot opposite the likes of Emma Stone, Martin Sheen, Sally Field and Rhys Ifans and tells the New York Daily News that he had a harrowing experience on set after failing to realise that his Spider-Man suit was not equipped for water revealing "I had to get wet, and I just kind of dove in and didn't realise that water on the mask made it impossible to breathe, so I was kind of, like, suffocating. I couldn't get any oxygen! I water-boarded myself."
Garfield praised the quick thinking of fight co-ordinator Andy Armstrong who dove into the water to remove the mask.
The Amazing Spider-Man is somewhat of a passion project for Garfield, he's been a fan of the arachnid superhero since a very young age and recently said he just "wanted to do it justice".
Audiences will find out if he has from July 3 when it swings into cinemas in 3D.
