Joss Whedon will return to write and direct Avengers Assemble sequel

August 7 2012

Ok so this was definitely on the cards and it will make fans all over the world rejoice that Joss Whedon has officially been confirmed by Disney to return to the helm for the forthcoming sequel to Avengers Assemble.

Not only that, Whedon will once again be writing it, it's no surprise given that the original film broke records across the board and in the US alone it made a staggering $200 million at the box office and has since gone on to gross over $1.46 billion.

Marvel Avengers Assemble as it was known this side of the Atlantic made history by being the first superhero film to see characters join forces to become a super team of heroes.

Marvel Avengers Assemble featured an all star cast including Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth who all have their solo exploits with the Iron Man, Captain America and Thor franchises respectively.

Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner have yet to have solo films based on their characters, but it is likely only a matter of time.

Not only that Disney also announced plans for a Marvel-related TV series for ABC which will see Whedon return to the television domain.

Marvel Avengers Assemble comes to Blu-ray and DVD on September 17.
