Mel Gibson praises Tom Hardy as good choice for Mad Max

August 14 2012

Hollywood legend Mel Gibson who is best known for his role Lethal Weapon franchise has ruled out a return for a fifth instalment.

The actor starred in four Lethal Weapon films between 1987 and 1998 and tells Coming Soon that he would not consider appearing saying "No. I think the way things are going with Total Recall, they'll just remake those somehow.

Though it's really tough to replace Danny [Glover]. He was so amazing in those things. It was a good gig for us. It worked. But we knew it would.

I had fun on every one of them and they were lucrative and good to me.

And they really afforded me the opportunity to slow down and pick things and do things that really interested me. Like this Gringo thing which didn't pay but it was a good thing to have done."

Gibson who is also known for the Mad Max franchise having starred in the first three films in the franchise from the late 70's to mid 80's has given his blessing to Tom Hardy who takes over the eponymous role of Max in the fourth instalment hailing The Dark Knight Rises villain as a "good choice."

Gibson will next be seen as Luther Voz in Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills which is in post production at the moment and expected to hit cinemas in 2013.
