Rian Johnson wants to direct Doctor Who

While he's rumoured to be in the frame to direct Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, it looks as though Looper filmmaker Rian Johnson has his sights set on directing another sci-fi favourite in the form of Doctor Who.
During a question and answer session with fans on Reddit, Johnson was asked which television series he would like to direct, and he said "What I'd really kill to try, although it would be terrifying because I'm such a big fan of it? Doctor Who."
Johnson is no stranger to TV having directed two episodes for AMC favourite Breaking Bad. His other feature credits include Brick and The Brothers Bloom.
Johnson isn't the only Hollywood director interested in directing Doctor Who; it was recently revealed that The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy filmmaker Peter Jackson.
Johnson's Looper arrives in cinemas on Friday starring Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt while Jackson's trilogy of The Hobbit kicks off with An Unexpected Journey on December 14.
