Taken 2 - Out October 4 - Badass Bodyguards in Film

October 2 2012

Is there a more badass bodyguard than Taken CIA field operative Bryan Mills? If you mess with him or his family he will find you, and he will kill you…but is he the most badass of them all?

To celebrate the release of Taken 2 (In cinemas 4th October) we’re going to have a look at the stiff competition Liam Neeson faces in holding the title ‘Most Badass Bodyguard’.

There’s no denying Bryan Mill’s ability with his fists and a handgun but I wonder how he handles a meteor hammer? (Fancy name for hammer and chain…)

Most definitely not as well as Kill Bill’s (2003) sadistic 17 year old schoolgirl Gogo Yubari (understudy to O-Ren Ishii)– One of the most iconic scenes from the film has got to be the showdown between Beatrix Kiddo and Gogo Yubari – it’s a bloodthirsty fight to the death as Gogo attempts to avenge the death of her colleagues. The fight was so intense and well shot that it went on to win the ‘Best fight’ at the MTV Movie Awards!
Another nomination has to go out to Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). Directed by James Cameron, Terminator 2 follows Sarah Conner and her Son John who are incessantly hunted down by a superior & more advanced machine known as the T-1000. The T-1000 is a liquid metal shape shifting terminator sent back in time with one objective, to kill the man who will eventually go on to become the leader of human resistance, John Conner. Here’s where Arnie steps up to save the day.
Arnie might be in good shape throughout the Terminator franchise but he’ll never be able to pull off a bowler hat as well as our next badass bodyguard. Let me introduce a new nomination, Oddjob, bodyguard to Auric Goldfinger in believe it or not... Goldfinger (1964). Oddjob’s weapon of choice is his razor edged throwable bowler hat, but that’s not to say he doesn’t have other skills to bring to the table. He’s a black belt at karate and is particularly skilled with a bow and arrow. Another interesting fact for you…there’s nothing he likes more for dinner than a tasty cat. Safe to say Oddjob’s name is rather fitting.
Let’s come back down to earth and forget about the meteor hammer, shape shifting liquid metal terminators and cat eating psychopaths. For the moment we’ll focus on a normal guy…well, sort of normal I guess. Our next badass bodyguard is John Creasy (Denzel Washington) in Man on Fire (2004) -  Much like Taken, John goes on a rampart revenge mission to save his wealthy boss’s daughter, John develops a close bond with 9 year old Pita and will stop at nothing to get her back home with her family.

So, taking all of the above into account, it’s pretty obvious Bryan Mills could take on Oddjob, Terminator, John Creasy and Gogo Yubari in a fight (all at the same time obviously).
