While it was thought that X-Men: First Class helmer Matthew Vaughn would direct the announced sequel that carries the title X-Men: Days of Future Past, word is that the British filmmaker has stepped down with reports suggesting that X-Men franchise director Bryan Singer is in the frame to take the helm.

According to Deadline, Vaughn will still be involved in the capacity of producer and claims that Vaughn will produce the upcoming film alongside Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner.
While this is the second comic turned film that Vaughn ha stepped down from as director, word is that he will likely direct another Fox picture, Secret Service - an adaptation of the Mark Millar comic book series.

It's not all bad news for X-Men: Days of Future Past, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence have all been confirmed to reprise their respective roles and Patrick Stewart hinted at an X-Men return.
