Born in Maryland, USA and raised in West Virginia, the son of a professor of music and a dancer. Michael Cerveris is not only an actor but a singer, composer, and guitarist. He had his Broadway debut in the Who’s Tommy in 1993 as “18-20 year old Tommy/Narrator” receiving a Tony Award nomination as Best Featured Actor in a musical. He’s appeared in several Broadway plays from Titanic, La Jolla Playhouse, and won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Assassins in 2004. In the 2005 Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd Ceveris played the title role, and was nominated for the Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, Drama League award, and received the Drama Critics Circle citation. 

 

Cerveris’ most visible role to date has been as The Observer in the FOX science fiction television series Fringe. His character, a mysterious man seen attending many unusual events, has appeared in every episode of the series, often in subtle cameo appearances.

His debut role in a feature film came in 1998 in Lulu on the Bridge, and his name became more prominent as he starred in films like The Mexican in 2001 and Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant (2009) and more recently appears in Stake Land Directed by Jim Mickle.
