2017 ON TV – A YEAR IN BINGEING: A Look Back At The Shows We Watched (And Watched Again) That Defined Our Year

11 December 2017

Netflix is taking a look back at 2017 to see what shows we watched and how we watched them; and we have some great insights:

With 600 Netflix Originals being released this year alone, we learned how to launder money (Ozark) and profile serial killers (MINDHUNTER). That life is better with wrestling (GLOW) and just as crazy without Pablo (Narcos). And once again, that Eleven is not to be messed with (Stranger Things)

Netflix found that during 2017, members around the world watched more than 140 million hours of Netflix - that's a little more one billion hours per week!

We have also looked at the new behaviours which were discovered this year, as bingeing is now a standard. UK specific data has revealed which shows we devoured, savoured, cheated on our streaming partners with, and those that brought the family together – lists included below

The UK's most popular streaming day was Sunday 29th October

A member in the UK watched Bee Movie 357 times in 2017. An impressive feat, especially as the average member watched around 60 movies on Netflix this year.

The year of 2017 has brought us a lot of new tidings, including a lot of award-winning TV. With over 600 Netflix Originals being released this year alone, we learned how to launder money (Ozark) and profile serial killers (MINDHUNTER). That life is better with wrestling (GLOW) and just as crazy without Pablo (Narcos). And once again, that Eleven is not to be messed with (Stranger Things).

In 2017, our members around the world watched more than 140 million hours of Netflix - that's a little more one billion hours per week! What a difference a year makes. Netflix looks back and reveals what we've watched and how we've watched it.

We've discovered that the UK's most popular streaming day was Sunday 29th October - it just so happens we had an extra hour with daylight saving, helping to squeeze in 'just one more episode'. It was also the day Stranger Things 2 arrived on our screens, so there is no coincidence that it was the most Binge Raced show in the UK in 2017, with subscribers watching the entire series in under 24 hours on the day of launch*. Additionally, a member in the UK watched Bee Movie 357 times in 2017. An impressive feat, especially as the average member watched around 60 movies on Netflix this year.

Although bingeing was standard in 2017, not all series were binged in the same way, which has unveiled some new behaviours this year. Some shows we devoured at immense speed. Others we couldn't bear to end and savoured each moment. There were also those that got us so hooked, we watched ahead and cheated on our beloved streaming partners, as well as those that were so good they brought the family together.
