300 composer Tyler Bates lands Guardians of the Galaxy gig

23 August 2013

Following the news that Bradley cooper is in line to voice Rocket Raccoon in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, comes word that 300 composer Tyler Bates will provide the soundtrack for the eagerly awaited superhero flick.

Director James Gunn broke the news while also hinting that the composer has already produced a significant part of the film's score explaining "Unlike most films, Tyler writes huge chunks of the score first so that I can actually film to the music.

During action scenes and huge dramatic moments we blare the score on set so that the cast, crew, and camera can move in harmony with the music. Music is often an afterthought in film, but never for us. And everything Tyler's done so far has been amazing!"

Set for release next summer, Guardians of the Galaxy centres on a jet pilot called Peter Quill who must bring together a team of aliens - among them Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot and Rocket Raccoon to see off threats to the galaxy and features the cast of Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Ophelia Lovibond, Michael Rooker, Lee Pace, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Karen Gillan, Benicio Del Toro, Djimon Hounsou, Gregg Henry and Vin Diesel.
