£35m Welsh Historical Epic KING to be shot on 35mm Film by filmmaker Asa Bailey

09 December 2015

Asa Bailey has opted to shoot his epic 'KING' on 35mm film, here's why. Today the Welsh film director Asa Bailey announced that his historical feature film 'KING' will be shot on 35mm film in North Wales in 2016.

'KING' by the time it starts filming in 2016 will be Baileys third British picture and it tells the historical story of an as yet unknown British King.

And that's Bailey's point.

Bailey's choice to shoot 'KING' on film over digital, is all about what's right for telling an historical story. He said “King is an historical picture and I want people to believe in what they see. It's not a case of being nostalgic about technology, it's about doing what's right for the film. So I have chosen to shoot King on 35mm film as it will add to the feeling of where and when the story of KING takes place.”

Bailey's first feature film 'CREAM' opened the UK's 1st Coast Line Film Festival in October 2015 and it also gained the praise of the British veteran film director Ken Loach. CREAM is available online on Vimeo On Demand and on a special edition directors cut DVD.

Now Bailey's production company Old Bailey has secured the backing of the UK's film investment community with Bailey and his Producers starting production on a slate of British films. Before filming begins on KING, Bailey will shoot 'Fall Out' set to start filming on location in North Wales in the spring of 2016. You can follow Asa Bailey on Twitter at @asa_bailey
