80’s icon Kurt Russell joins Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained

01 October 2011

Hollywood legend Kurt Russell who is known for his roles in films such as The Thing, Stargate, Big Trouble in Little China and Death Proof has joined the cast of Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained replacing Kevin Costner.

The 80's icon will play the role of Ace Woody who runs Calvin Candie's (Leonardo DiCaprio) plantation with an iron fist, making the lives of the slaves unbearable.

Russell has been Tarantino's goto guy once before when he replaced Mickey Rourke in Death Proof and bagged arguably one of his most badass roles in ages.

Speaking of talent that Tarantino has used before, the actress who played Rocket in Kill Bill: Vol. 2; Laura Cayoutte has also joined the cast as Candie's sister and plantation co-owner.

Tarantino's take on the spaghetti western Django Unchained stars Jamie Foxx as Django and sees him team up with a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to rescue his enslaved wife from Candie.

The film is currently filming and is slated for a Christmas Day release next year and also features The Avengers Samuel L. Jackson.
