A Star Is Born remake eyeing Gerard Butler

20 May 2010

The remake of 'A Star Is Born' appears to be dragging another male name into its casting gravity, Gerard Butler, the scottish star of films '300', 'Gamer', 'Law Abiding Citizen' and the more recent 'The Bounty Hunter' with Jennifer Aniston is being considered by Warner Bros to star in the film.

Word surfaced that Russell Crowe was being considered for the part. But there's no offer, and it's very possible the 'Robin Hood' actor won't do the role after all.

A Star Is Born is almost the Doctor Who of behind-the-scenes drama films – it changes a little with each variation, focusing on either a washed up singer coaching a young newcomer into the business or an older movie star helping a showgirl with her first steps on stage. Either way, friendship and romance blossom, but the male side of the story struggles with alcoholism and other demons.

Nick Cassavetes is still attached to direct, shoud Gerard be cast it would also mark a creative reinvention for the actor, since he's known mostly for romantic comedies and action films, not down-on-his-luck dramas.
