“A STREET CAT NAMED BOB” WRAPS PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHY
FIRST OFFICIAL IMAGE RELEASED
‘A Street Cat Named Bob’, the film adaptation of James Bowen’s much-loved, best-selling novel, wrapped principal photography on Sunday, December 6.
Starring Luke Treadaway (Unbroken, Clash of the Titans) as James Bowen, ‘A Street Cat Named Bob’ tells the moving and life-affirming true story of the unlikely friendship between a young homeless busker, James Bowen, and the stray ginger cat named Bob who changed his life. Luke Treadaway won an Olivier Award for Best Actor for his performance in the National Theatre’s production of ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’.
Also starring Ruta Gedmintas (The Strain, The Incident) Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey, Filth) Anthony Head (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) and (of course) Bob, filming took place over six weeks in London, mainly in Covent Garden where James and Bob used to busk.
The first official picture shows Luke Treadaway (James Bowen) on location in London alongside co-star Ruta Gedmintas and author James Bowen with his best friend Bob.
The film is directed by Roger Spottiswoode (Tomorrow Never Dies, Under Fire, Air America, Turner & Hooch), with a script from Tim John (Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde) and Maria Nation (Ice Bound).
The film is produced by Adam Rolston for Shooting Script Films and will be the company’s debut release.
Damian Jones is an executive producer alongside Tim Smith, Paul Brett, Anders Eden, and James Scott for Prescience.
Producer Adam Rolston comments: “I’m delighted that principal photography has wrapped on my company’s first major film production. Filming at various locations in London and at Twickenham Studios has been fantastic but the revelation of the shoot has been our incredible cat actors and even Bob himself! They say you should never work with animals in film, but all of the cats have been amazing, as have our animal trainers. I feel confident that audiences over the world are going to fall in love with James and Bob’s heartwarming story.”
Director Roger Spottiswoode comments: “It’s been terrific to film in London again. We had a marvelous crew and have been able to use all the locations James Bowen writes about in his book. James and Bob came to help during production. Bob was not only stellar when playing himself but assisted his fellow thespians in every way possible. The film will be completed at Molinare.”
Peter Taylor, Managing Director, Sony Pictures Releasing International (UK), adds: "We are delighted to be releasing the film adaptation of this incredible true story. The tale of James and Bob has provided so much inspiration through the hugely successful books and we look forward to bringing it to film for all audiences whether they be fans of the twosome already or new to their unique and moving life together."
Sony Pictures Releasing International (UK) will release “A Street Cat Named Bob” in the UK in 2016.
