Acclaimed Manchester By The Sea Actress Michelle Williams in talks to join Sean Durkin’s Janis Joplin Biopic
She recently premiered Certain Women and Manchester By The Sea at the 60th BFI London Film Festival, and Variety report that incredible Actress Michelle Williams is in talks to team up with Martha Marcy May Marlene helmer Sean Durkin for the Janis Joplin biopic entitled Janis.
Produced by Peter Newman with Durkin’s partners at Borderline Films, along with Uncommon Productions, Interal and Seven Hills Productions, Newman has held rights to a good portion of Joplin’s catalog and a large collection of written materials, which will be used to create a depiction of the last six months of her life.
Joplin was a rock-and-roll icon in the 1960s who rose to fame with Big Brother and the Holding Company before dying of a drug overdose in 1970 at age 27.
Williams is currently rehearsals for The Greatest Showman on Earth, which starts filming next month and she’ll next be seen in Manchester by the Sea from filmmaker Kenneth Lonergan, which hits Cinemas on January 13 2017 and has Todd Haynes’ Wonderstruck in post production.
