Amy Adams is heading to Woodstock

19 July 2010

The actress will play Janis Joplin in a biopic of the ‘60s singer, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

A biopic for Janis, who scored such hits as "Me and Bobby McGee" and "Piece of My Heart," before her career was cut short by a drug overdose at age 27, has long been in the works.

One project, "The Gospel According To Janis," with Zooey Deschanel attached to star, was in development in the mid-2000s, while a different film, to star Lili Taylor and executive produced by Jonathan Demme, was floated a few years prior. Singer Pink also formerly circled a Janis project, according to Deadline.

The struggle to get the singer's life on screen was parodied on NBC's "30 Rock" in a storyline where Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski) was to play a fictionalized version of the star after failing to secure her life-rights.

The new film will be produced by "The Twilight Saga" producer Wyck Godfrey. Deadline reported that the project has yet to find a studio.

Amy will hit the screen next in "The Fighter," due in December, alongside Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg.
