And The Shaft Goes To… The Hateful Eight’s Samuel L. Jackson named Greatest Black Actor in History in PaddyPower’s Poll

70,000 MOVIE FANS VOTE PULP FICTION STAR GREATEST BLACK ACTOR IN HISTORY

Samuel L. Jackson has been voted the greatest black actor in history according to over seventy thousand movie-lovers who voted in Paddy Power’s three day Twitter poll.

In reaction to the ominously vanilla list of nominations, the bookmaker set out on a quest to find the best black actor never to have won an Oscar. Or more poignantly, the actor most deserving of the inaugural and highly prestigious ‘Shaft Award’.

The format mirrored a typical football World Cup draw, albeit without the massive corruption and free Rolex’s for hosting it in a dodgy location.

On Wednesday, 32 nominees including Samuel L. Jackson, Will Smith, Danny Glover, Eddie Murphy, The Wayans Bros, Idris Elba and Wesley Snipes were split into eight groups of four. From there, the top two from each group progressed to the last 16, before a hard-fought quarter and semi-finals saw Samuel L. Jackson, Idris Elba, Will Smith and Ice Cube battle it out for The Shaft.

Over twenty thousand people voted in the final with 38% of them agreeing Samuel L was thoroughly shafted by the Academy Awards in overlooking his performance as the ‘Bad Mother Fuc*er’ Jules Winnfield in Tarantino’s classic.

Idris Elba was second with 25% of the vote for Beasts of No Nation, ahead of Will Smith with 22% in third and super cool Ice Cube bringing home fourth spot with 15%.

Paddy Power said “I’d like to congratulate Samuel L. Jackson on being voted the greatest black actor in history. Unfortunately Sam couldn’t be here with us tonight but he left us this message: ‘Enough is enough. I’ve had it with these motherfuc*ing snakes on this motherfuc*ing plane.’
