Avengers: Age of Ultron’s Scarlett Johansson set to star in DreamWorks’ Ghost in the Shell adaptation

DreamWorks' adaptation of the hugely popular Japanese anime series Ghost in the Shell has reportedly found its star, in the shape of Avengers: Age of Ultron's Scarlett Johansson.

Variety report that the Lucy and Lost in Translation siren has signed up to star in the upcoming live-action adaptation that centres around a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission, which focuses on fighting technology-related crime.

Snow White and the Huntsman Director Rupert Sanders is currently the frontrunner to helm the film with Avi Arad and Steven Paul will produce from a script by Bill Wheeler.

Written and Illustrated by Masamune Shirow and originally published as a Seinen Manga series, Ghost in the Shell was later published as its own Tank?bon volumes by Kodansha and spawned an animated film in 1995 with a TV series called Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex following in 2002 and a 2013 film series known as Ghost in the Shell: Arise.

Johansson reprises her role of Black Widow in the aforementioned Avengers: Age of Ultron from Marvel Studios, Directed by Joss Whedon, Avengers: Age of Ultron debuts on April 24.
