Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice new poster revealed and the Fall out from DC’s Comic-Con presence

17 July 2015

This week’s DC Cinematic/Extended Universe news is focused on the fall out from Comic Con with the first trailer of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice being released and then a teaser for the Suicide Squad was unveiled, however this was then leaked to the displeasure of David Ayer and Warner Bros. but you can read about those panels by clicking here.

I just want to say how I loved both trailers not only are we going to see these iconic heroes and villains coming to our screens, but I think the BvS trailer is the best trailer of this year. I loved how bright it looks, Zack Snyder must have been listening to the criticism of Man of Steel for being too visually dark and it gripped me from the moment Ben Affleck was on screen as Bruce Wayne plus I thought Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman looked badass and silenced the haters.

Quick mention of Suicide Squad, even though it was only meant to be something for Comic Con it was released a few hours later officially, and I expect we’ll see the first official trailer at next year’s Comic Con, it looked great and gave a story arc to the film and Jared Leto’s Joker looks insane and sounds like a mixture of Heath Ledger and Mark Hamill which can only be a good thing.

The thing which got me about the Suicide Squad was the music ‘I Started a Joke’ which was originally a Bee Gees song, but Confidential Music featuring Becky Hanson’s vocals made it hauntingly beautiful and creepy. I just hope they don’t over kill it like Avengers: Age of Ultron did with the Pinocchio song.

After the panels the cast of both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad took an exclusive group picture for The Hollywood Reporter. We also got a look at Affleck in his desert gear with the photo taken by the amazing Clay Enos.

Then Affleck, Gadot, Snyder, Henry Cavill, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams, Holly Hunter and Jeremy Irons went to the DC Comics booth to sign autographs and take pictures with fans which is a really nice thing for them to do.

During Comic Con, Deadline reported Affleck will be directing the solo Batman film as well as co-writing the script with DC supremo Geoff Johns. It was a given Affleck was going to direct the Batman solo film when he signed to become part of the franchise, but having Johns co-writing with him is good because he’s written scripts for Arrow, The Flash and the forthcoming Supergirl and he knows the comics and making Aquaman the badass he is today.

On the animation side, DC has revealed there will be three films coming out with the most noticeable being The Killing Joke getting an animated adaptation. This is great because the graphic novel is a classic and offers up a potential Joker origin story and it’s been one of the most requested animated films by fans and will be exclusively produced by Bruce Timm who’s just a legend.

The other two films will be Batman: Bad Blood – An original Batman story that features the introduction of Batwoman to the new line of animated films. Then there’s Justice League vs Titans – Another original story and the first of the DC Universe Original Movies to feature the Teen Titans.

Finally, after appearing at his first Comic Con (and probably his last) Eisenberg gave his reaction to the craziness and didn't do a good job at describing the experience to The Hollywood Reporter saying “It is like being screamed at by thousands of people. I don't know what the experience is throughout history, probably some kind of genocide. I can't think of anything that's equivalent,"

The next day he tried to explain himself telling the Associated Press, “I of course was using hyperbole to describe the sensory overload I experienced,”

It’s just safe to say that Eisenberg is just a bit of a dick for saying that because he could have used so many different words to describe his experience of Comic Con than using the word genocide.

Also we heard from Ezra Miller, who’ll be Barry Allen in the DCCU, talking about The Flash and commenting on how awesome it is for him and Grant Gustin (also Barry Allen/The Flash in the brilliant TV show) being the same character and how excited he is about the parallel universes “I’m not avoiding it at all. I think it’s awesome! C’mon, we’re The Flash! It’s parallel universes! Grant Gustin is The Flash AND I’m The Flash, don’t you see? It’s the Event Horizon, we crossed it baby! Grant and I are chillin’, we’re gonna have a race, it’s gonna be dope. Like Jay Garrick and Barry Allen back in the day.”

Watch the full interview below and see how excited Miller is it’s infectious.
