With two live action reboots of the Rudyard Kipling's beloved classic The Jungle Book coming to cinemas, it has been announced that Benedict Cumberbatch has signed on to provide his voice to the villainous tiger Shere Khan for Warner Bros in Jungle Book: Origins.

The Sherlock and Star Trek Into Darkness star who lends his voice to The Hobbit trilogy big bad Smaug will reunite with his Middle Earth alumni Andy Serkis who will make his directorial debut with Jungle Book: Origins, which follows a boy named Mowgli who is raised by jungle animals.

Written by Callie Kloves and Produced by her father Steve Kloves, it will compete with Disney's own new adaptation, that is being Directed by Jon Favreau with Pacific Rim's Idris Elba voicing Shere Khan.

Coincidentally, this is not the first Khan that Cumberbatch has played, after he previously starred as the tiger's villainous namesake in the aforementioned Star Trek Into Darkness.

Jungle Book: Origins will arrive in cinemas on October 21 2016 a year after Disney's version which will arrive on October 9 2015.
