07 December 2011

While he was the strong favourite to play the new big bad in J.J. Abrams hotly anticipated Star Trek sequel, word is that Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro has turned down the role.

Apparently talks broke down after Paramount were unable to reach a deal with The Wolfman actor. and while they'll be hunting for a new person to take on the role, it is known that the villain will be Khan Noonien Singh who was made famous by the portrayal of Ricardo Montalban in Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan.

Whether you are a fan of the character or not, Khan is a genetically engineered human tyrant who also cropped up in the original television series episode Space Seed.

The Untitled Star Trek Sequel will beam into cinemas in May 2013 and will unite Chris Pine, Anton Yelchin, Zachary Quinto, John Cho, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and Simon Pegg with new recruits Alice Eve and RoboCop legend Peter Weller.
