Bill Kenwright Films brings ‘Another Mother’s Son’ to Principal Photography

Jersey-set period drama ANOTHER MOTHER’S SON is now in production, with an ensemble cast that includes British acting luminaries Jenny Seagrove, John Hannah, Amanda Abbington, Peter Wight and Susan Hampshire, alongside musician, stage and screen performer, Ronan Keating.

ANOTHER MOTHER’S SON is the true story of Louisa Gould; set during World War II on the Nazi-occupied island of Jersey, Lou takes in an escaped Russian POW and hides him over the course of the war. Tension mounts as it becomes clear that Churchill will not risk an assault to re-capture the British soil, and the island-community spirit begins to fray under pressures of hunger, occupation and divided loyalty. Against this backdrop, Lou fights to preserve her family’s sense of humanity and to protect the Russian boy as if he were her own.

From a screenplay by Jenny Lecoat and directed by BAFTA-winning Chris Menaul (SUMMER IN FEBRUARY and Emmy-nominated Killing Jesus), ANOTHER MOTHER’S SON will shoot for six weeks across Somerset and the South West of England.

Producer Bill Kenwright commented on today’s news: “ANOTHER MOTHER’S SON is a powerful story that celebrates the bravery of one woman, determined to protect a young man’s life against the context of the Nazi occupation of Jersey. We are thrilled to have such an accomplished and diverse cast coming together to tell Louise Gould’s story for the first time on film. ”

Stage and screen actress Jenny Seagrove - best known for her recurring role as QC Jo Mills in Judge John Deed, as well as for numerous feature films during a career that started with LOCAL HERO - will play the principal role of Louise Gould.

ANOTHER MOTHER’S SON marks a significant next step in the now firmly established acting career of singer-songwriter, Ronan Keating, whereby he takes on the role of Harold Gould. Keating most recently received rave reviews for his performance as Guy in the West End stage production of “Once”; his debut lead film role was in 2013’s GODDESS, directed by Mark Lamprell.

Seagrove and Keating will be joined by John Hannah (THE MUMMY film franchise, FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL, and television’s Damages and Spartacus), Amanda Abbington (Sherlock, Mr. Selfridge), Emmy Award-winning Susan Hampshire (Monarch of the Glenn, The Forsyte Saga) and Peter Wight (ANOTHER YEAR, BABEL). The film also introduces Julian Kostov (soon to be seen in feature film epic, BEN-HUR) as the young Russian POW.

Bill Kenwright Films have recently wrapped on the Andrew Scott and Ciaran Hinds short film, THE HOPE ROOMS. A division of Bill Kenwright Ltd, Bill Kenwright Films develop and produce high quality theatrical films and television; previous projects include Rufus Norris’ BROKEN (2012 British Independent Film Award for Best Film) and Stephen Frears’ CHÉRI, starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Rupert Friend and Felicity Jones.

ANOTHER MOTHER’S SON is produced by Bill Kenwright and directed by Chris Menaul. Producer Daniel-Konrad Cooper; Executive Producers Steve Potts and Naomi George; line producer Donall McCusker. Further talent behind the camera includes Cinematographer Sam Care (The Tunnel, IN OUR NAME), Production Designer Adrian Smith (RESISTANCE, BRONSON), Editor Mark Trend (BURN, BURN, BURN), Costume Designer Charlotte Mitchell (Endeavour, UNDER MILK WOOD) and Makeup Designer Aileen Seaton (300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE).
