Bill Murray shreds Ghostbusters 3 script

21 December 2011

Further to his reluctance to sign on for the long awaited Ghostbusters 3 comes word that cinema legend Bill Murray shredded his copy of the script.

According to the National Enquirer, Murray sent the shredded document back to co-writers and original Ghostbusters stars Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis with a note saying "No-one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts."

While Sony Pictures the studio behind the franchise is said to be unwilling to make Ghostbusters 3 without Murray's involvement, Dan Aykroyd insisted in August that Ghostbusters 3 will get made with or without Murray.

However, Sigourney Weaver has cast doubt over her involvement if Murray doesn't reprise his role of Peter Venkman.

The original release of Ghostbusters in 1984 grossed $290 million and spawned a successful sequel in 1989.

The news is a blow to the production, but let's not count it out just yet, meanwhile the Oscar nominated Murray will next be seen in Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom with Bruce Willis and Edward Norton next year.
