Capture The Flag – In Cinemas Friday January 29 – Space Explorers

27 January 2016

Mike belongs to a family of NASA nearly-made-its. His grandfather just missed out on the Apollo XI mission with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin and his father was injured before he could go but Mike is desperate to break the family curse and make it to the moon.

Sit back and brush up on your cinematic space explorers before Capture the Flag lands in cinemas on 29th January. Featuring stranded astronauts, British pop culture, and animals out of their depth; read on to find out who made the cut...

The Martian – Mark Watney
Based on Andy Weir’s science-fiction novel, Matt Damon stars in Ridley Scott’s latest blockbuster picture as Mark Watney, a NASA scientist stranded on Mars. A grizzled space pirate now inhabits the Hab and through videologs, Watney is able to maintain morale on a highly rationed diet. Effectively colonising Mars, Watney has to survive on his improvised potato farm before a rescue mission can be established.

Wall-E – Wall-E
Pixar’s loveable busy body Wall-E captured the hearts of viewers with his 2008 Oscar winning performance. When humanity abandons the garbage covered earth for cleaner pastures, trash compactor robots are left behind to prepare for humanity’s eventual return. Whizzing around, compacting and collecting is Wall-E, a lonely, yet curious robot with humanoid emotions; a result of century long exposure to classic films and human nostalgia. When EVE, a futuristic robot, lands on earth, Wall-E is captivated and follows her into space. Little does he know he is humanity’s last hope of returning them to Earth.

A Grand Day Out – Wallace & Gromit
This Oscar nominated claymation from Nick Park of Aardman Animations sends Wallace & Gromit, our loveable British exports, to the moon in search of great tasting cheese. Crackers without cheese is like, well, Wallace without Gromit and so in this endearing little short they set off for the moon in pursuit of that once great myth. Packed into this imaginative little tale are all the marvels of space exploration and a little heart-warming side-story that pops up completely unexpectedly.

Space Chimps: Zartog Strikes Back – Space Chimps
Ham, Luna, and Titan make up the team of heroic space chimps sent across the galaxy to recover a crashed satellite from the evil clutches of Zartog. With a voice cast featuring Andy Samberg, Cheryl Hines, Jeff Daniels, and Patrick Warburton amongst others, this fun adventure movie takes a step back from the political heavy Planet of the Apes series and brings younger viewers an enjoyable look at space exploration.

Space Buddies – Space Buddies
Following in the paw prints of Air Buddies and Snow Buddies the loveable pups embark on a mission through space after they are sealed inside Vision 1, a space shuttle set for launch during a visit to Vision Enterprises. This furry tale is a fun space exploration adventure from Disney’s home entertainment branch.

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Based on the hugely successful British radio series of the same name this cinematic adaptation from Garth Jennings is just as zany as the source material. With an ensemble cast of comedy misfits including the likes of Bill Nighy, Bill Bailey, Jason Schwartzman, and Stephen Fry starring alongside Martin Freeman, Mos Def, Zooey Deschanel, and Sam Rockwell this sci-fi misadventure thrills those familiar with the zany British humour that sparked an adaptation and conspires to convert those with a zest for oddball sci-fi.
