Carey Mulligan in new trailer for Far from the Madding Crowd

Far from the Madding Crowd has unveiled an extended trailer. The adaptation of the classic Thomas Hardy novel will star Carey Mulligan as strong and intelligent Bathsheba Everdene.

Everdene is a woman of independent means who impresses those around her with her guile and grit. She finds her self with a romantic conundrum torn between the attention of three men of opposing class and personalities.

She must choose between sheep farmer Gabriel Oak (Schoenaerts) a man far beneath her status, the dashing Sergeant Frank Troy (Sturridge) and the wealthy aging bachelor William Boldwood (Sheen).

Matthias Schoenaerts, Tom Sturridge, Michael Sheen, Juno Temple and Jessica Barden also star in the tragic romance.

Thomas Vinterberg (The Hunt) is directing and David Nicholls (One Day) has adapted the novel.

Far From the Madding Crowd was published in 1874 as Hardy's fourth novel, and became his first major success.
