Celebrities With A Need For Speed

06 August 2014

We all love fast cars and motorcycles, but only a few of us have the bank accounts to feed our hobbies. The world's fastest cars can cost more than $1 million dollars and others are so exclusive you have to be invited to own one.

Of the groups out there able to afford these spectacular machines, Hollywood celebrities are some of the most notable for doing so. Hip hop moguls are known for their love of speedy and luxurious imports and comedians like Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld are known for being among the top collectors in the world. Others own that one car they love and drive it to the max. Here are a few of the best:

Nicolas Cage - Ferrari Enzo ($670,000)

The nephew of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola is famous for losing his mind on camera so you can imagine what he's like behind the wheel of one of the world's rarest and most powerful Ferraris in the world. The Enzo packs V12 mid-engine that tops at 217 mph and a 0-60 in just 3.4 seconds. And Ferrari only produced 399, which means to even be eligible to own one, you have to already own other Ferraris and be personally invited from the company to purchase an Enzo. Nicholas Cage was one of those lucky individuals.

Kanye West - Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 ($750,000)

Rapper Kanye West, recently famous for marrying Kim Kardashian and formerly famous for loving himself, prefers the finer things in life, especially nice toys on four wheels. His luxury car collection includes a Mercedes SLR, Silver Maybach, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Earlier this year, it was his Lamborghini Aventador though that made headlines when the car was crushed by the electric gates of Kim Kardashian's Los Angeles house. (No worries, a mechanic was reportedly sent out to evaluate the damage.) The black Lamborghini also had major sentimental value. Kim gave Kanye the two-door sports car as a present for his 35th birthday. Designed in Italy, the super sporty roadster is built with a striking V12 engine and superior carbon-fiber technology for unparalleled driving performance, Kanye-style.

Simon Cowell - Bugatti Veyron ($1.7 million)

Simon Cowell might be known as the jerk from "American Idol," but as a producer of some of the world's most successful talent shows (like "America's Got Talent"), he's got plenty in the bank to afford the world's fastest, and most expensive, street car. The Veyron makes the Enzo look like a golf cart. It's engine is a whopping 16 cylinders and has more than 1,000 horsepower, giving it a neck-breaking 0-60 time of 2.5 seconds. He might frown on television but Simon is all smiles behind the wheel of this behemoth.

Tom Cruise - Vyrus 987 C3 4V Motorbike ($47,000)

Tom Cruise has been spotted several times on what is basically the Veyron of motorcycles. This Italian-made bike is for sale at just under $50,000, which is a hefty fee for a two-wheeler. Cruise did his own stunts for movies like "Mission Impossible," where he actually shot a scene on the side of the Berj Khalifa in Dubai, the world's tallest building. But he has the sense to play it safe and shop (or have his assistan shop) for a stylish helmet and riding gear on his Vyrus. It's that fast.

Jerry Seinfeld - Porsche 959 ($700,000)

If you've ever seen the web series "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee," you know that the inventory behind Jerry's collection is nearly endless. But even the 90's great has a few gems that top the rest: one of those is the coveted Porsche 959. It's an older car, manufactured in the late 80's, but in its prime it was considered one of the best on the road and still holds up to this day. It packs a twin-turbo rear engine with a top speed of 195 miles per hour, making it the most powerful car of the 80's and still one of the best today.
