Chappie’s Hugh Jackman wants to play Wolverine until he dies

22 February 2015

He returns to the X-Men Universe with his eighth outing as Logan aka Wolverine in X-Men: Apocalypse, and Hugh Jackman has expressed his desire to continue his role in the 20th Century Fox franchise until he dies.

Speaking to Cigar Aficionado, the sought after actor who will next be seen as Vincent Moore in Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie and as the villainous Blackbeard in Joe Wright’s Pan, admitted that watching Michael Keaton in Birdman inspired him to keep playing the role explaining "I said to my wife, 'The moral is that I should never stop playing Wolverine. I've got to find a way to keep playing him until I die'."

Jackman also admitted that he would be happy if the part was eventually recast adding "I know that someday they'll recast the role with another actor, I'd be happy if the role was eventually recast. It would mean that it had become iconic."

Talking about pushing himself further both physically and emotionally for his next outing as Wolverine, he explained "I always want to be in better shape than I was for the last one. I don't believe in stagnation.

People say they try to maintain the status quo. But I believe the natural cycle means you're either advancing and getting closer to something or you're receding… Every time I play Wolverine, I want to go further, physically and emotionally."

X-Men: Apocalypse opens on May 19 2016, under the direction of Bryan Singer featuring Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Evan Peters, Channing Tatum, Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Hoult, Oscar Isaac, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Rose Byrne and Sir Ian McKellen.
