Chappie’s Sigourney Weaver would revisit Alien

15 February 2015

Sci-Fi legend Sigourney Weaver who returns to cinemas with Chappie has revealed that she would be interested in reprising her Alien role if Neill Blomkamp's project goes ahead.

Talking to Coming Soon, the Avatar franchise star said that although the project's future is unclear, she would consider returning to the role of Ellen Ripley explaining "[Blomkamp] kept sending me these brilliant designs and ideas and everything. We'll see what happens.”

Weaver added that while she has resisted becoming involved in any further sequels in the Alien franchise, Blomkamp's project would be original explaining “I didn't want to manufacture a sequel, and I felt like we were starting to do that, if something happens from this, it would be very organic and very original, and because of that it would make me want to do it. If it was [directed by] someone as talented as Neill, I'd certainly listen."

Blomkamp has said that working with Weaver inspired many of his ideas explaining "[Weaver] knows about it and part of it was just inspired by speaking to her on set when we were filming Chappie.”

And getting her thoughts on Alien and what she thought of the movies that came after Aliens and what she felt about Ripley and what was incomplete for her about Ripley, there was so much fuel in what she was telling me. I don't know whether it's going to happen or not. We'll see."

Weaver featured as the iconic heroine in four Alien films between 1979 and 1997 and returns to cinemas in the aforementioned Chappie alongside Hugn Jackman on March 6.
