Chris Columbus snags Trollhunter rights

12 June 2011

Film making icon Chris Columbus who famously brought us the world of Harry Potter has acquired the rights to remake Norwegian thriller Trollhunter.

The 2010 original was written and directed by André Øvredal sees its UK release on September 9 and can currently be seen in the States and follows a group of student filmmakers head to the woods to investigate a spate of bear killings. There they meet a troll hunter, who introduces them to all manner of impressively rendered beasties.

Columbus said "Trollhunter was a visceral, thrilling, cinematic rock and rollercoaster ride of a movie. Visually, there are scenes in this film that American audiences have never seen. We want to introduce an international audience to this amazing moviegoing experience."

At the moment there is no word as to whether Columbus will step behind the directors chair for this one or if he will oversee it as producer.
