21 August 2014

Following the reveal that The Hobbit trilogy actor Benedict Cumberbatch has boarded Andy Serkis's Jungle Book: Origins for Warner Bros. it has been announced that Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Naomie Harris have joined the live action retelling of the Rudyard Kipling classic.

The Hollywood Reporter report that Bale will lend his voice to the panther Bagheera, Blanchett will voice Kaa the python and Harris will lend her voice to Nisha, a member of the wolf pack that is lead by Peter Mullan's Akela.

Rounding out the cast is Tom Hollander who voice the sinister jackal Tabaqui, who is an ally of the devious Shere Khan (Cumberbatch), Eddie Marsan as Vihaan and Rohan Chand as Mowgli with Serkis providing the voice and movements to Baloo the bear.

Jungle Book: Origins will tell the story of a young boy named Mowgli in the jungle, where he learns the ways of the jungle after being saved from the tiger Shere Khan by Bagheera.

The film will be a mix of live action and CGI Motion Capture and is set for release on October 21 2016, a year after Disney's live action version featuring Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson, Sir Ben Kingsley and Bill Murray arrives in cinemas.
