Christopher Abbott to join cast of Tina Fey’s adaptation of The Taliban Shuffle

03 February 2015

Tina Fey’s as yet untitled project has snagged actor Christopher Abbott.

The Paramount film is an adaptation of The Taliban Shuffle, the wartime memoir of Journalist Kim Barker. The memoir details Barker’s experiences of reporting conflict in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The film is said to be a dark comedy that deals with Barker's fish-out-of-water experience and the challenges of being a woman in wartime Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Fey will produce and star. Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are directing. Robert Carlock, who worked with Fey as a writer on 30 Rock, has penned the script. Ian Bryce and Lorne Michaels also are producing the film, which will begin shooting in New Mexico this month.

Christopher Abbott will be joining a cast that already has Margot Robbie and Martin Freeman attached.

Abbott has previously starred in HBO’s Girls, and his other film roles have included A Most Violent Year and Martha Marcy May Marlene. His most recent performance was in the drama James White at Sundance, which won the NEXT Audience Award, for which he received strong praise.
