Cloverfield scribe Drew Goddard provides sequel update

07 March 2012

Since it made an impression at the Box Office way back in 2008, a sequel to monster disaster flick Cloverfield has always been on the cards, and while it has been quiet, Drew Goddard has offered a status update on the film's proposed sequel.

The Cloverfield scribe tells Shock Till You Drop that he is keen to work on a follow-up but scheduling conflicts are holding the project back and says "I'm in, I'm ready to do it, someone call JJ and tell him to get moving, but because Matt and JJ and I have been fortunate enough to be busy, it's hard syncing our schedules up. We're all very passionate about returning to that world."

When asked what shape the project will take, the script writer explained that "you'll get three different answers from each person involved."

And adds "The aesthetic of Cloverfield benefits from that. Three voices pulling it. Look, nothing would make me happier than to get the three of us in the room to get started." he added. "But you've got this Star Trek thing..."

Goddard's latest film produced by Avengers Assembled director Joss Whedon called The Cabin in the Woods opens on April 13, he has also written the Steven Spielberg directed sci-fi Robopocalypse.
