Colin Firth may torture Josh Brolin in Spike Lee’s Oldboy

12 November 2011

The King's Speech Oscar winner Colin Firth best known for his stiff-upper-lip roles is being tipped to play Adrian, the villain of the story in Spike Lee's Oldboy remake.

Josh Brolin is currently the only actor locked into a deal to star in the film which is a US remake of a Korean modern classic, and conventional casting would see the two swa roles.

The Dark Knight Rises caped crusader Christian Bale and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo remake sweetheart Rooney Mara were linked to the film, but have since gone on to shoot films with Terrence Malick.

It's an intriguing prospect to see Firth as the big bad, but the report from Twitchfilm says there is no word on how likely it is that he will sign on to torment Brolin.

It's no surprise that the remake is being met with hostility, given the brutal nature of the story, but it is hoped that more will be attracted with some great casting.

Firth will next be seen in the Coen brothers remake of Gambit alongside Cameron Diaz and is currently filming Arthur Newman, Golf Pro with British beauty Emily Blunt for director Dante Ariola.
