Coriolanus director Ralph Fiennes will be a government agent in Skyfall

03 January 2012

Hollywood heavyweight Ralph Fiennes who returns to cinemas in his directorial debut Coriolanus on January 20 has revealed that he has always been a massive fan of James Bond.

The Harry Potter villain tells the Daily Mail "I used to be a complete nerd about the books and the detail in them. They are fantastic.

There was Ian Fleming's obsession with different kinds of champagne and caviar. He kind of fetishises these things."

Fiennes is currently filming James Bond's 23rd adventure Skyfall, and while he can't say too much about his role he did say "I'm allowed to say that I'm a government agent."

When asked if he would've been interested in playing 007 himself, the Wrath of the Titans villain added "There was a time in my life when that would have appealed to me. But I'm a bit on the old side now."

Directed by Sam Mendes, Skyfall hits cinemas on October 26 and features a stellar cast of Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Javier Bardem, Ben Whishaw, Albert Finney and his Harry Potter co-star Helen McCrory.
