Coronation Street and Waterloo Road alumi Nikki Patel to play Lead Role in Future Conditional at The Old Vic

12 August 2015

This September will see actress Nikki Patel star as the lead in new play Future Conditional at the Old Vic theatre, written by acclaimed playwright Tamsin Oglesby and directed by Matthew Warchus.

Nikki plays Alia, a young Pakistani refugee who is the newest member of Britain’s Education Research Board with a radical solution for Britain’s schools, to restore the nation’s place in the world education league. The character faces the challenge of convincing the system to take lessons from a schoolgirl.

Having started her career 10 years ago in Coronation Street, Nikki will make the transition from screen to stage later this year. She leads a new and significant phase for the Old Vic as it moves on from Artistic Director Kevin Spacey, to award winning director Matthew Warchus.

“I am honoured to be cast in a production directed by Matthew Warchus,” says Nikki Patel. “I hope that through this production we will raise the awareness of equality of education for women around the world.”

The comedy drama, Future Conditional, will also star actor and comedian Rob Brydon and will run from Tuesday 1 September to Saturday 3 October 2015.

About Nikki Patel
Nikki Patel is a British actress. Born in Bradford, West Yorkshire in 1990, Nikki always knew she wanted to act from a young age. In 2005, at the age of 15, she auditioned for the role of Amber Kalirai on Coronation Street and was successful in getting the part – an achievement made even more significant due to the fact that this was Nikki’s first ever audition.

Nikki's latest role is in Future Conditional at the Old Vic theatre, kicking off Matthew Warchus' first season as Artistic Director after taking over from Kevin Spacey.

As a supporter of original content and diversity in the arts, Nikki was keen to take part in Future Conditional, believing that support from prestigious theatres like the Old Vic provide a platform for encouraging new work and inspiring stories centred round Asian characters.

Nikki is also due to star in new drama The Five, airing on Sky Living in late 2015.
