Craig Gillespie met with Blake Lively for lead role in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

25 September 2011

Green Lantern and Gossip Girl hottie Blake Lively has reportedly been offered the lead role in Fright Night director Craig Gillespie's adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

The report that the director met with Lively recently comes from Twitch, however it is unknown if she has accepted the role.

The film will be based on Seth Grahame-Smith's reworking of Jane Austen's classic, which sees Elizabeth Bennet, a young zombie hunter struggling to repel a zombie outbreak.

If Lively does sign on she would have beat out the likes of Zombieland babe Emma Stone, although reports suggest that the Easy A actress turned down the role.

Late last month, Gillespie insisted that his adaptation would be faithful to the Austin classic, telling the LA Times "It's another tone issue, that's where the challenge is. It's a little more serious than Fright Night. It's staying incredibly true to Jane Austen and the humour that you get from Jane Austen, and the dynamic of this society and the humour and insight that comes from the situations that she wrote about."

Lively will next be seen alongside Kick-Ass anti hero Chloë Grace Moretz in Derick Martini's Hick and is currently filming her role of O in Oliver Stone's Savages alongside Nowhere Boy's Aaron Johnson.
