Dallas Buyers Club star Matthew McConaughey not chasing Oscar
Matthew McConaughey who returns to cinemas with Jean-Marc Vallée's Dallas Buyers Club has insisted that he is not "chasing" an Academy Award by starring in a series of acclaimed dramas.
Speaking to USA Today, the actor who recently joined Christopher Nolan's Interstellar insisted that his recent film choices have not been motivated by an attempt to win an Oscar and explained "There's nothing out there that I am chasing. I want my work to translate, last year was an incredibly creative year of work for me."
He also joked "It was also the first year I lost money. How about that? Make sure you [write] that I'm saying that with a grin. I'm looking for great experiences."
Speaking about his forthcoming role as a medication-smuggling AIDS patient in Dallas Buyers Club, McConaughey added "I lost 47lbs. On the face of it, that's something. It did inform what I was able to do, there's the literal hunger but there's also this headstrong insatiability.
The body is more resilient than we give it credit for. I was eating meals. I had controlled meals. I had support from the family. No, I did not go have meetings in steakhouses."
Dallas Buyers Club opens in the UK on February 7 next year and features Jennifer Garner, Jared Leto, Steve Zahn and Griffin Dunne.
