Dame Helen Mirren scoots into town for Brighton Rock premiere

02 February 2011

Helen Mirren arrived at the Brighton Rock premiere in London's Leicester Square last in true 60's fashion, as she turned up on a Mods and Rocker's style scooter. The 65 year old looked the picture of sophisticated elegance last night in a gold Jacques Azagury dress with matching gloves and stilettos.

Brighton Rock is a remake of Graham Greene's 1938 gangster thriller that is widely considered the best British film of all time. It follows the rise of gang leader Pinkie Brown played by Control's Sam Riley, from bottom of the pack by murdering his old boss. A gullible and naive young tea shop worker Rose, played by Andrea Riseborough, becomes a potential witness and soon gets caught up in Pinkies dark world. The remake has been updated to take place in the 1960's this time however, and will no doubt do for this young cast what the original did for Richard Attenborough.

Mirren plays Rose's tea shop boss Ida, a strong willed and good hearted moll, who tries to protect Rose from her fate. The role is another classic British character for Britain's Queen of casting, and will no doubt bring her much acclaim. Speaking of other British achievements, Helen congratulated fellow actor Colin Firth in his highly praised role in The King's Speech saying of his chances at the Oscar's:

'' I think he deserves it, and I think he will get it.''

Helen can next be seen this month in The Debt alongside Sam Worthington, and we can't wait to see her in Arthur along side funny man Russell Brand at the end of the year.
